I'd need to sell stuff to get this!Īnyone have experience with the old POA Denons? The Denon is really nice looking but the Nikko has that dual single amp under the hood. The ILPs sounded way fucking better, like light years ahead. I tore the amplifier section out and installed two giant ILP MOSFET bricks. But Ive got the Alpha III on the highs and a Nikko 440 on the bottom end using and active crossover to bi-amp. The S10VB20 rectifier with just 20,000uF of capacitor bank was kind of weak coming off the big 500600VA XFMR. Yup the Alpha III runs on the warm side and that is normal sweet sounding :yes: Ive have it hooked up to the Infinity RS 2.5s which will suck the life out of an amp. Both the Nikko set and Denon set are within my price range. It was clear to me NIKKO power amplifiers are NOT PROFESSIONAL audio equipment. I'm also looking at a re-capped Denon POA 1500 and PRA 1000. They are totally updated with a new re cap etc by a reputable vintage audio service which is also a brick and mortar shop. I have an opportunity to buy this amp (Alph II 120 watts per channel) along with a Beta 20 pre amp.
So my hunt for new amp and pre began weeks ago. Since the JK acoustics Passive 5-II preamplifier which I use is has an AC and a DC output, it matches perfect with the Alpha III. Special for the Nikko Alpha III is that it has a normal' input (AC) and also a direct' input (DC). It is decent but I'm thinking that I can do better for my new speakers. A good MOSFET power amplifier like the Alpha III combines the best of both worlds: the musical performance of tube amplifiers and the fast and powerful performance of traditional transistor amplifiers.
